About Tanya Gulati

Personal, strategic family law counsel in Woodbridge

Founded by Tanya Gulati, FORTE Family Law is a boutique practice built around direct involvement, thoughtful strategy, and a deeply personal approach to representation. Tanya works closely with each client to understand what is at stake (legally, financially, and personally) and to develop a path forward that reflects the realities of the case, not a formula.

Tanya has developed a particular interest in financially complex family law matters, particularly those involving self-employed individuals, business owners, and complicated financial circumstances. These cases require more than an understanding of the law; they demand careful financial analysis, thorough preparation, sound judgment, and strategic advocacy.

What distinguishes her approach is not only how she prepares a case, but how she cares for the people behind it. Tanya takes the time to explain, to answer questions, and to make sure her clients understand both the decisions in front of them and the reasons behind the advice they are receiving. Clients are not treated like files, but like people whose families, businesses, and futures genuinely matter.

Whether the matter calls for a carefully negotiated agreement or firm advocacy in court, FORTE is grounded in clear advice, strong representation, and a commitment to seeing each matter through.

A new chapter together

You may be taking a relationship into a more serious chapter: choosing to live together, planning a marriage, or joining your life with someone while wanting to protect the business, property, family wealth, or financial independence you have already built.

The end of a relationship

Or you may be navigating the end of a relationship and facing an entirely new reality: becoming co-parents, restructuring parenting time and decision-making responsibility, determining support, dividing property, or untangling financial lives that were built together.

A more personal transition

Sometimes the transition is even more personal. It can mean leaving a home that has become part of your identity, returning to the workforce after years away, learning how to make decisions independently again, or rediscovering who you are outside of a relationship.

It can also mean letting go of the life you knew (the home, the routines, the role you occupied) and beginning the quieter work of deciding who you want to be next.

Why Forte?

Four principles shape how Tanya advises and represents every client.

Candour: What You Need to Hear, Not Just What You Want to Hear

Tanya believes her responsibility as counsel is to provide clients with an honest assessment of their circumstances, including the strengths and weaknesses of their position. She will not encourage unrealistic expectations simply because they are easier to accept.

The Whole Picture: No Issue Looked at in Isolation

Family law matters rarely exist in isolation. Decisions concerning support, property, parenting, and litigation can have significant consequences for one another. Tanya considers the larger picture, including the financial, practical, and personal implications of each decision.

Adaptive Strategy: The Strategy Changes When the Case Changes

Effective advocacy requires preparation, but also flexibility. As new information emerges, circumstances change, or negotiations progress, the strategy must evolve accordingly. Tanya does not believe in pursuing a particular course simply because it was the original plan.

Resolution: Not Conflict for Its Own Sake

Tanya is a litigator, but litigation should serve a purpose. She believes in exploring reasonable opportunities for settlement while remaining fully prepared to advance a client’s interests before the court when necessary. The goal is not to prolong conflict, but to achieve meaningful and sustainable results.
